My good buddy Steve Nixon was kind enough to publish a guest post in which I talk about why most local musicians suck at getting booked and how they can change all that. You can read it here. In addition to being a great keyboardist, teacher and arranger, Steve is an example of what goes right when you combine marketing and sales skills with raw talent.

And you'll notice that it gets slammed as ridiculous. Obviously lying and misrepresenting yourself, and painting yourself into corners you can't get out of is no way to accomplish anything. You may scam your way into an occasional booking, but lying and playing people for fools will only piss them off. You have no chance of getting rebooked using those techniques, and I would think very little chance of getting booked at all. People don't like being treated like idiots.

If by "getting an occasional booking" you mean playing 3-4 times a week and packing rooms, then yeah you're right. If you don't like it, don't listen to it, fred65@hotmail.com. I really don't care either way.
